Meet Raegen Valdes

Growing up in the LA/OC area, my family has always been my anchor. From a young age, I discovered my love for connecting with people and offering a helping hand. When my sister faced cancer at 14, I stepped up as the family’s support system at just 12. Art became my personal therapy, a space where I could freely express myself and find solace during tough times. As I ventured into college, I initially pursued art, but then I also fell in love with psychology. Imagine my excitement when I was told about a master’s program specializing in art therapy – a perfect blend of my passions and a solution for my indecisiveness.

My clients often describe me as friendly, humorous, and easy to talk to. Drawing from my experiences as a camp counselor and after-school teacher, I’ve honed the ability to effortlessly build connections and create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Along this journey, I’ve been privileged to witness incredible transformations in my clients’ confidence. Let’s embark on this journey together, fostering growth and acceptance. Together, let’s paint a canvas of healing and empowerment.

What would your clients and colleagues say is your therapist superpower?

My ability to create a safe and inviting space for kids and teens, easily build rapport, and bring humor into the space easily.

What is one thing that you have learned through your own therapy?

Like a lot of things in therapy, anxiety is an ongoing journey. Therapists are there to guide you, not give advice, but rather help you find the answer.

Therapy Styles

Short Term (Solution-focused, etc.)
Ideal for those who are coming in with a specific problem they’d like to address and gain clarity on. Typically, short term therapies are present focused and do not dive deep into your past.

Structured
Structured therapies are goal and progress oriented. Therapists may incorporate psychoeducation and a specific “curriculum.” In order to stay on track, therapists may provide worksheets and homework.

Insight-oriented (Psychodynamic, Existential, etc.)
Exploring the past and making connections to present issues can help clients gain insight. Getting to the root of the issue and finding deeper self-awareness can help with long-term change.

Non-directive (Humanistic, Person-centered, etc.)
Going with the flow and seeing where it leads.

Behavioral (CBT, DBT, etc.)
Focuses on changing potentially unhealthy or self-destructive behaviors by addressing problematic thought patterns and specific providing coping skills.

Trauma Focused (EMDR, TF-CBT, etc.)
Recognizing the connection between trauma experiences and your emotional and behavioral responses, trauma focused therapy seeks to help you heal from traumas.
