What would your clients and colleagues say is your therapist superpower?

Colleagues and clients often highlight my intuitive ability to pinpoint exactly what they need to address or understand to navigate their challenges. This intuition feels like ‘hearing’ the whispers of their subconscious, guiding me to unlock insights or pathways they might not yet see. It’s a blend of professional training, empathy, and a deep commitment to listening beyond words, which allows me to create a personalized, transformative experience in our sessions. This intuition helps my clients connect deeply with their inner selves and empowers them to discover the strength and solutions within.

What does a typical session with you look like?

The initial session is 90 minutes long and begins with the client sharing their backstory and goals for our sessions. Together, we craft a plan for thinking and feeling in a healthier, more fulfilling way about the presenting issue. I’ll explain how the process works and what to expect in terms of progress and timeline. Next comes the hypnotic experience! For many of my clients, it’s their first one, so it’s fun and light. They’ll leave feeling relaxed and hopeful, looking forward to the next session. Each session builds on the success of the previous one. Subsequent sessions are 60 minutes long, and we check our progress and fine-tune our approach as we go.

How have your personal experiences helped your work with your clients?

My journey through life’s steepest challenges, including divorce, the profound loss of a family member to suicide, and the heartbreaking loss of an unborn child, has deeply informed my hypnotherapy practice, contributing a profound well of empathy and understanding. These personal experiences have not only heightened my compassion but have also driven me to seek out and master specific hypnosis techniques that are particularly effective in navigating grief, anxiety, and the process of rebuilding. In every session, I bring supportive compassion and a commitment to guide my clients onward and upward, leveraging my own path through adversity.

Drawing from the martial arts tradition that resonates with me, I consider myself a sempai within the hypnotherapy journey. In karate, a sempai is a senior student who mentors and guides less experienced students or members, known as kōhai. This role is about leading by example, offering support, and sharing knowledge gained from one’s own journey. As sempai, I navigate my clients through emotional landscapes, leveraging my life experience to illuminate the path forward, turning obstacles into opportunities for growth and transformation.

Therapy Styles

Short Term (Solution-focused, etc.)
Ideal for those who are coming in with a specific problem they’d like to address and gain clarity on. Typically, short term therapies are present focused and do not dive deep into your past.

Structured
Structured therapies are goal and progress oriented. Therapists may incorporate psychoeducation and a specific “curriculum.” In order to stay on track, therapists may provide worksheets and homework.

Insight-oriented (Psychodynamic, Existential, etc.)
Exploring the past and making connections to present issues can help clients gain insight. Getting to the root of the issue and finding deeper self-awareness can help with long-term change.

Non-directive (Humanistic, Person-centered, etc.)
Going with the flow and seeing where it leads.

Behavioral (CBT, DBT, etc.)
Focuses on changing potentially unhealthy or self-destructive behaviors by addressing problematic thought patterns and specific providing coping skills.

Trauma Focused (EMDR, TF-CBT, etc.)
Recognizing the connection between trauma experiences and your emotional and behavioral responses, trauma focused therapy seeks to help you heal from traumas.
