Meet Leah (Hall) Price

My name is Leah (Hall) Price and I am excited to help with your child’s communication! I am a speech language pathologist and the founder of Well Said Speech Services. I am committed to providing high quality speech and language therapy for children 2-18 years old.

I have been working as an SLP since 2015. My educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University and master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh (SLP program ranked #5 in the nation). I have worked at a variety of school settings including Los Alamitos Unified School District and Long Beach Unified School District as well as a private practice speech clinic. My greatest love is working with clients and families to assist with communication. I have a passion for early intervention and helping children with Selective Mutism (SM). I am certified in PCIT-SM and have worked with many families to help their children overcome their fears speaking to new people and in new places. I am determined that all of my clients make progress and become more confident communicators.

What would your clients and colleagues say is your therapist superpower?

My clients and colleagues often describe my therapeutic strength as the ability to view the whole child and effectively generalize skills beyond the therapy room to various settings. While I pride myself on my ability to connect with children, I have also developed expertise in coaching parents—a vital component that frequently accelerates progress for the child. Depending on the child’s specific speech or language impairment, direct speech therapy and targeted practice may be sufficient to foster improvement. However, for challenges such as selective mutism, early intervention, and other communication disorders, integrating parent coaching and collaboration with teachers or other educators can significantly enhance therapy outcomes. Empowering parents to practice strategies during sessions and in everyday environments often leads to lasting success for the child.

What is one thing that you have learned through your own therapy?

Through my time providing therapy to clients, I have learned that no child is truly the same and every child requires their own individualized, specialized recipe to help them be successful! Some children thrive off of structure, others benefit from a more child-led approach, and others need a hybrid of both. Knowing when to follow through with a current approach or when to pivot and change are skills that clients have taught me over the years and helped me be a better therapist for others. With the client’s interests in mind, I’ve learned how to use empirical evidence and clinical experiences to create that ideal treatment plan for your child.

Therapy Styles

Short Term (Solution-focused, etc.)
Ideal for those who are coming in with a specific problem they’d like to address and gain clarity on. Typically, short term therapies are present focused and do not dive deep into your past.

Structured
Structured therapies are goal and progress oriented. Therapists may incorporate psychoeducation and a specific “curriculum.” In order to stay on track, therapists may provide worksheets and homework.

Insight-oriented (Psychodynamic, Existential, etc.)
Exploring the past and making connections to present issues can help clients gain insight. Getting to the root of the issue and finding deeper self-awareness can help with long-term change.

Non-directive (Humanistic, Person-centered, etc.)
Going with the flow and seeing where it leads.

Behavioral (CBT, DBT, etc.)
Focuses on changing potentially unhealthy or self-destructive behaviors by addressing problematic thought patterns and specific providing coping skills.

Trauma Focused (EMDR, TF-CBT, etc.)
Recognizing the connection between trauma experiences and your emotional and behavioral responses, trauma focused therapy seeks to help you heal from traumas.
