Meet Sara Cameron, LMFT

Sara Cameron, LMFT

Sara is a psychology/relationship nerd. Her passion for these areas inspired her to pursue a career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals and couples (at every stage of coupledom). With a decade of experience in the fields of mental health and personal development in a wide range of settings, Sara customizes each client’s experience. Her guidance is equal parts intuition, heart, and neuropsychology, all anchored in practical tools. She has been trained in Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT), a form of color therapy. Sara is also the Director of Consultation for a local non-profit organization that provides mental health services to the community.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I’ve always been interested in psychology, beginning as early as middle school when I was a Peer Counselor. A period of depression in my late teens and early 20s only furthered my interest in what contributes to people leading fulfilling lives. Since then, I have been devoted to learning about relationships, psychology, philosophy, and self-development. One of the things that I love about this field is that it is constantly evolving and growing, just like we are.

Who do you work with?

I work with individuals and couples who are having difficulty navigating relationships and communicating their needs effectively. The clients I work with are often high achievers, deep feelers, or people-pleasers. Sometimes they’ve grown up in critical households, and may strive for perfectionism or “success” to feel worthy. But this leaves them feeling unfulfilled and disconnected from those they care about most.

The couples I work with usually come to me when they’re feeling stuck — they’re having the same argument over and over again, or the relationship just feels “off.” I love helping all of my clients understand themselves better, so that they can feel empowered when expressing themselves in their lives and relationships.

How would you describe your therapeutic style?

I bring a blend of empathy, curiosity, humor, and knowledge to the therapeutic process. I provide a safe space where clients get to explore — and begin to shed — the beliefs, behaviors, and stories imposed by family and society that no longer work… allowing my clients to be the truest and most resilient version of themselves.

What is Emotional Transformation Therapy?

Emotional Transformation Therapy is an impactful form of therapy that uses color and light to access different parts of the brain, targeting specific issues. It is especially helpful for those who want to relieve feelings of anxiety, depression, trauma, “analysis paralysis,” and shame. I provide ETT as a complementary tool to help move through especially heavy or sticky emotional work during the course of traditional talk therapy.

What would you say to those seeking therapy for the first time?

I know the vulnerability and courage that it takes to ask for support. I also know what becomes possible when we give ourselves the opportunity to be seen, heard, and understood: a stronger sense of self, better relationships, and a more fulfilling life.
